Come diceva Homer…? “Ahhhhh…. Colesterolo….”
Up this week in the making popular snack food at home category is the ever-famous, hunger-squashing Snickers bar. Not only does this recipe save you money by making them yourself, it makes enough for some serious long-term storage.
If you do any baking at all, you probably have most of the ingredients to pull this off already—chocolate, peanut butter, butter, sugar, vanilla, and peanuts make up most of the ingredients. And if you’ve ever cooked any type of food, you already have most of the kitchen hardware necessary (such as a stove, a pot, a microwave, and a bowl). You might need to head to the store for ingredients like butterscotch chips, evaporated milk, some chewy caramels, and a 9×13 pan if you’re not a baking addict just yet. Even if you did have to go buy all the ingredients, they’d still probably only run you $15-$20—not a bad price for an entire 9×13 pan worth of bars (or an entire 9×13 bar, if you prefer). Note that while the bars pictured are covered in chocolate as are real candy bars, they tend to be a bit messier and you may opt to leave out the last step of dipping them in chocolate, for prettier, easier to eat bars.
